I Hate When My Throat Gets Sore

I am rather new to the cold winter air. I moved from Sunny South Florida last year where the air is always warm and the humidity level is always in the 90%’s. I am happy that I moved here. Now I get to see what seasons really are like. In

South Florida it got cool about 1 month out of the year. Now it is only warm 4 months out of the year.

Last winter I was in for a surprise. The weather turned cold. I was ready though. I had bought several heavy jackets and the new house had a nice new gas powered heater. The only thing that I was not ready for was how dry the air gets in these winter conditions.

It began with just chapped lips. OK, that is a small thing. I just went out and bought chapstick. Then came the dry mouth. I figured that being winter, I would not sweat away all the precious water that my body needs. Little did I know that I would be drinking just as much water in the winter time because the air sucks it all out of my breath.

Because of the dry air, my throat was constantly dry. Then my body would compensate causing mucus to drain down the back of my throat. I know, a little more than you really wanted to know. Then the drainage caused my throat to become raw and infected. By the middle of the winter, I had a full blown tonsil infection that was not going to go away by itself.

I did all the normal things. I took Echinacea and drank more orange juice than Florida could provide. It took a trip to the doctor and a heavy dose of antibiotics to make the infection go away.

I knew that there was a chance of having this happen again so I looked for all the information I could find on how to battle the dry air in winter time.  I found this website that told me all the ugly things that dry air will do to a person. I knew that I had most of the symptoms. I had to find out what I could do to battle these symptoms.

I began to realize that I didn’t have to live in extremely dry conditions, at least not in my home. I could invest in a humidifier that will put precious moisture back into the air.  After a little more research, I decided on a Humidifier and the rest of the winter I lived with clear lungs, a healthy throat and an enjoyment of the brisk winter that I moved up here for.

If you have the same kind of trouble with dry skin, sinus headaches and sore throats, you should do a little research and find all the information that you need to make sure the air in your home is full of life giving moisture.
