Sometimes I Just Can’t Help Keeping My Head In The Stars.

I work the night shift and I usually have a forty minute drive home. A lot of times I will spend that time looking at the sky, as long as the driving conditions allow me to of course. I get to see the moon go through all its phases from new moon to full moon. There have been times that I have seen stars near the moon that are extremely bright and wondered, “What is that?” I figured it was a planet of some sort, but I have never really been all that sure.

I have always been interested in astronomy. I just have not had the knowledge or the equipment to be able to know what I was looking at in the night sky. Also most of my life was spent living in a very bright metropolitan city. There were more lights around my house than visible stars in the sky.

Today I live a little deeper in the countryside and have a chance to see more of the stars in the sky. I want to do more research so I can be more knowledgeable about what I see when I look up. Today, I found a brand new peice of equipment that will help me do just that. I was searching the internet and found geargalaxy.com. This website went into detail about the skyscout which allows you to just point it at a star or a cluster of stars and it will tell you what you are looking at. It actually gives you a video and/or audio about the planet or stars you are pointing it towards. It also has a function that will give you a tour of the night sky. Head on over to the skyscout webpage and read all about it.

While you are at opticsplanet.net check out all the other cool equipment that they have. I am looking at some of the telescopes. I would love to have one on my back patio so I can go out and look at the planets, the craters on the moon, the red eye on Jupiter, and hopefully a galaxy or two. It is amazing what you can see with the naked eye. Imagine what you will find with the skyscout.
