Writing Tips: Sifting Through the Boring Stuff

Sometimes it takes a while to get into the groove, to find your muse, to feed your beast. To get to that point, a lot of times, it takes a lot of words to actually get to the point. The problem with that is that there is a lot of boring stuff that we must remove from our work in order to make the piece readable.

I believe that you should write everyday. If you are like me, you don’t always know what to write. I personally just sit down and start writing the first thing that comes to my mind. If I can do that, eventually something good comes out. Once that good stuff comes out, I can edit out all the junk that I had to write to get to that point.

To avoid writing the junk in the first place, I find that outlining my ideas (even if I really don’t have any ideas) is a great way to get through the junk faster so I can get to the fun stuff. If you outline everything that you are thinking about writing, when you go to actually write it, you will be able to pull out the golden nuggets.
