How Do I Pick Out a Christmas Tree?
First you have to decide if you are going to buy an already cut tree from a store like Home Depot or Lowes, or are you going to find a tree farm and cut it yourself.
If you are going to go to a tree farm, you will want to find a tree that is at a height that will fit in your home (remember you will have to put a topper on the tree). Then walk up and down the rows of trees and find one that is full (you don’t want open spots in the tree. It will make it harder to decorate). Then follow the directions that the tree farmer gives you on cutting it down. This can be a rewarding event for the entire family.
If you are going to the store to pick out a tree that has already been cut, there are a couple more things you need to look at. Once you decide on a size, pick a tree out of the bunch that looks full. Have the strong man of the house lift it slightly off the ground and pound the base of the trunk against the floor. If hundreds of needles fall to ground, you know you need to keep looking (this tree is rather dry and may turn brown on you before then end of the season). If only a few fall to the ground, then look at the tree for holes or bare patches. If it good and full, have the workers make a fresh cut on the bottom and cut away the bottom limbs so it will fit in your tree stand (make sure you buy your tree stand first. You will need to know how deep it is when you instruct them how to prepare your tree).
