Experience the Christmas Tree Hunt

If you have a family, you have to take one year (if not make it an annual tradition) to go out and find your own live Christmas Tree. There is something about going out and finding a tree together, then bringing it home and decorating it. It just brings a family together.

I am going to tell you how it is done in our family. Then you can make whatever alterations to it to meet your family’s desire.

We usually try to go out the weekend before Thanksgiving, possibly even the night before Thanksgiving to pick out our tree. Before we leave, we will get dressed (coats and all) then make a nice hot batch of Coco (Hot Chocolate). We make sure it is travel worthy because it would not be the same if we could not take the Coco with us.

Sipping our drinks we make our way to the local hardware megastore (Lowes tends to be our choice the last few years, but Home Depot or even Walmart will do nicely if you go early in the season. If you go too late the selection of trees will not be very good). We spend some time walking up and down the isles of Trees (We have yet to go to a Tree Farm, but the feeling should be similar) and talks about the placement of the Tree in the house and what we learned from last year’s Christmas Tree experience.

Picking out a tree is an evolving tradition (as well as decorating you home). You will take what you have learned in previous years and adapt what you have learned about placement and decorating and watering and everything else that goes along with the experience, then try to make it even better.

Together, choose a tree, stomp it and make sure everyone believe that is will look good in your home. Make sure everyone gets to watch as the associate trims it for you, makes a fresh cut on the trunk and wraps it up for the journey home. The fun part is trying to get the tree home with a car full of people. Sometimes you can get into the trunk. Other times you will have to tie it to the roof. Whatever the case may be, do it together. Don’t leave anyone out.

The whole point of the Great Christmas Tree Hunt is to spend quality time with your family. Do that… Make it about your Family’s togetherness, and you will have a special time that will live on in your memories forever.
