You Should Go on a Two Week Road Trip Before You Die
I went on a trip a few years ago. I traveled from South Florida all the Way to Bangor Main and back. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life. Here are some of the reasons you should go on a two week road trip:
You get to see things and places that you have always wanted to see. I spent a lot of time planning this trip. I sat down with an atlas and drew out my plan to travel up the east coast. I marked all the things that I wanted to stop and see, making sure that I was going to have plenty of time to see everything. I got to spend time in Washington DC, New York City, the Statue of Liberty, some of the New England Coast and what I actually went up there for… to See the city that Stephen King was known for.
It is a great way to get some solitude or to spend some quality time with your spouse. For me, I was not married and was not seeing anyone at the time, so I took this trip all by myself. It was nice to be able to get away from reality for awhile. I was able to think and write and get alone with God and the nature that He created.
Traveling by car is more eco-friendly than flying a plane. Apparently each person uses a lot more fuel to fly in a plane than to travel by car. Using this kind of fuel is bad on the environment. We don’t want to kill the planet… right?
You get to see more than just the destination. What is it they always say… It’s not the destination but the journey to get to the destination. I got to stop where I wanted, when I wanted. It was nice to be able to see the stuff that was on the side of highway, things I would not have gotten to see if I was flying or is other people were with me.
You get to drive. I don’t know about you, but I love to drive. I love to be in the car. There is something about it. A freedom that most other things do not give you. I know other people do not have this same fascination with being on the open road as I do, but I know that there are a lot of us out there who just love to roll the window down and feel the wind blowing in their hair.
You get to try new foods, restaurants and meet new people. The only thing that I didn’t plan out when I was planning the trip was where and what I was going to do for food. I wanted the freedom to stop where I wanted to when I wanted to to eat food that was different and regional. It was fun. I got to eat at a real new york style Chinese restaurant in china town.
You will be able to see friends and family you have not seen in a while. Plan to stay at the homes of people you know. This will save you money on hotels. I was able to stay with my grand mother and friends in both Washington DC and Connecticut. These are all people that I don’t get to see all that often. It was nice.
You will have some amazing opportunities to take fantastic photographs. Take pictures all along the way. They will be fantastic reminders of this trip of a lifetime, plus you will get to see things that you may never get to see again. Photograph those memories.
