Athvor the Dragon: Day 001 - When Scales Itch
His scales itched. They always itched right before a battle. It was a great defense when his guard was down and trouble approached without his knowing. The itching would alert him that he needed to get his guard up. On days like today, though, this itching was more of a weakness.
“Athvor! Pay attention. The battle is about to begin.” The warrior’s suit clanked as he returned his gaze from the scratching dragon to the horizon of enemies.
Athvor traveled with this man for many years. This man was his mentor and his friend. This man found him as a baby and raised him as his own. It was not an unusual story. Many of the adult dragons of his time had been destroyed. Many men searched the countryside looking for nests of dragon eggs to start new dragon armies.
Junis was not like these men. He just happened on the abandoned nest when he was hunting for dinner. He was able to kill the wild dog that was trying to crack its shell to get at what it hoped to be a tasty meal. Seeing the cracked egg and the struggling dragon inside, Junis took pity on this little creature and took it home.
