Athvor the Dragon: Day 004 - Sky and Arrows

Junis’ grip on Athvor lightened as they leveled out, gliding across the river towards the enemy. He let go and lifted his arms, taking in the pure air of the sky that most people never get experience. He closed his eyes and enjoyed the flight.

Together, it is like they are one. There is a connection between them that has grown over the years. Most of the time, they don’t even have to speak, they just understand each other. Athvor grinned as he felt Junis enjoying the dragon ride.

The silence of the sky was always a little eerie. There very little noise; just the sound of the wind breaking over Athvor’s wings. Even all the commotion on the ground could barely be heard. Junis didn’t understand why this was, but he did know that he would rather be in the sky than anywhere else in the world.

A loud snarl came from Athvor’s mouth as he jolted, nearly sending Junis into a plummet. Junis grabbed the saddle quickly as he opened his eyes. By then Athvor had steadied himself. There was still a low, barely audible growl that vibrated deep within the dragon.

Junis looked to his right as he felt his partner’s pain. There was an arrow jutting through the wing. It reminded him of those women on the northern shore who pierce their ears with sharpened splinters of wood, only on a much bigger scale.
