Athvor the Dragon: Day 005 - Pulling Out the Arrow
“I’ll get it.” Junis said as he began to climb out onto Athvor’s wing. “Just fly strait.” Junis had done this many times before. Usually it was when there was nothing being shot at them. Usually is was just a sense of freedom being able to walk out on the wing of a giant dragon and knowing that this dragon was not going to let you plummet to your death.
Luckily the arrow was not very far from the saddle. There was more surface area the closer he was to Athvor’s trunk. He just had to reach the arrow and pull it the rest of the way through.
Athvor suddenly shifted, sending Junis rolling back against the saddle. A series of arrows and metal shards flew up past the wing, barely missing them both.
Junis shook his head, trying to rid himself of the shock and fear that he was a dead man from his thoughts. He looked towards Athvor’s head. The dragon was still focused on flying over their enemy while avoiding the projectiles being sent their way.
Getting back on his knees, Junis moved back out on the wing and took a steady grip of the arrow. “Prepare yourself.” Athvor gave a brief nod knowing this was going to hurt. The layer of cartilage and skin that made up the wing was extremely thin, but was still teeming with nerves that let the dragon know how to shift to stay in the air.
Junis pulled the arrow with one fluid motion. It slipped through with little effort, but the tail-feathers ripped at the flesh as they passed through. Athvor let out a roar of pain, but did flinch otherwise. He could not flinch. He could not risk sending his friend to an early grave before he had the chance to destroy some of these evil hupars
