This is my first youtube video. Hopefully it is decent enough for you all to watch. It gives you a basic idea for my vegetable garden for this year. The tomatoes are doing really well, and the bush beans are not very far behind. I have a little weed pulling around the containers to do.

What do you all Think. Please leave a comment.

Garden Diary: Tomatoes are a Good Bit Bigger and Bush Beans are Up

Tomatoes

I believe this one is the Beefsteak Tomato. It is doing really well. I am excited at the progress it is making. Behind it is the Roma Tomato. It is a little behind the Beefsteak, but not by much. They seem to be really strong plants.

Bush Beans

This plant was not up last week. It has since sprouted and grown some nice leaves. There is a second sprouting that has shown itself in this same pot, but I don’t know if it will survive. I will keep you updated.

The Garden
This is prety much my garden this year. I have two types of tomatoes, peppers, brussel sprouts, bush beans, and Sunflowers. Everything is in pots except for the Sunflowers. I am excited about how it is going to come out this year.

Tomatoes
These are the tomatoes. I have a beefsteak variety and a roma variety. This year I have planted only one plant per container. I did this because of what happened last year.

Spinach
My Spinach has sprouted. I should be able to cut something from it in about a month. I’m excited.

Sprouts
I am pretty sure these are the Brussel Sprouts I planted. The only other thing they could be is the bush beans I planted, but I am pretty sure these are the sprouts.

Sunflowers
My Sunflowers are a little bigger. :)

Garden Diary 2008: I am Pretty Sure I am Safe Now - No More Frost

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

We just went through What I believe to be the last frost of the year. I was smart enough to cover up my seedlings. They are just about ready to be moved to the bigger containers.

TomatoesPeppers

A Couple of weeks ago I planded some sunflowers where I am planning to place the growing containers. The idea is to use the sunflowers to hide the containers from the rest of the world. They were smart enough to wait till the frost was over to peek their heads out of the ground.

Sunflowers

I am about half way satisfied with the tulips this year. Seven out of the eight I planted two years ago came up this year. Last year only 5 of them came up. This year I only had one flower. I am not sure why. Maybe I will do better next year. I think that this year I am going to find some more bulbs to plant around the tree. This way I can have flowers growing all season long. The tulips are early season flowers which mean they are dead by the middle of the summer.

Garden Diary 2008: Waiting for the Last Frost

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

I know. It’s been a while. I have been kind of waiting for this crazy weather to stop so I can really start growing my garden. My ideas have changed a bit. We are hoping to have some work done to the back side of our property this year and we are looking to put in a swing set. This means that some of my original ideas are not going to wor this year. I think I am going to do a lot of my growing in containers and a few things like the sunflowers and maybe the spinach around the containers to hide the uglyness of the containers. I will post a photo soon.
