Another Winter Storm and Toyota Tries to Save Face

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

So it is supposed to get colder as the day goes on. It is in the forties right now, but it is supposed to drop to 35 degrees by this afternoon. There is also a possibility of snow. This is so much fun. I have not seen this kind of weather since we moved up here. It is unusual. I love the cool weather. It’s better than the months and months of hot weather we had in South Florida. Lets cross our fingers that we get more snow.

I saw a commercial last night for Toyota. It had a couple stating they had driven Toyotas all their lives and have never had a problem. They said they respected a company that said they were trying to fix the problem with their cars and that their next car was going to be a Toyota. I think Toyota is going to have a very hard time coming back from this. There are so many people who are trying to turn their Toyotas in for new cars. Ford and Chevy are offering cash back for those people who turn in their old Toyotas. By the time everything is over, I think Toyota might be forced into bankruptcy, or at least downsizing their company. It is a sad, sad thing.

I Have Mixed Feelings About The Amy Bishop Shooting

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

What I don’t have mixed feelings about is the fact that she killed three people and injured several others. For that she should be punished. I am not a believer in corporal punishment. I don’t believe in anyone taking someone else’s life unless they are a danger to me at this particular point in time. If they attack me or my family, I will do what needs to be done to protect them and myself.

What I do have a problem with is trying to figure out why she would do such a thing. Why would she take such permanent action against other people. The news says she was upset because she was denied tenure. I admit, I don’t know what a tenure it. So I looked it up.

Google’s definition is: “give life-time employment to; ‘She was tenured after she published her book’”

So apparently she was supposed to be given her job for life. She was counting on her position at the school to be permanent ‘till she retired. They denied her that, so she felt she had no other choice.

This doesn’t make sense. She shot multiple people in the heat of the moment. She obviously was not thinking strait. If she was thinking, she would have realized that her job was not something that is supposed to be permanent. If it was, she would be doing the same thing for the rest of her life.

Not only that, but she took someone else’s life for her own failures. Even if it wasn’t her own mistakes of lack of excellence that kept her for receiving the tenure, maybe it was the economy and the school’s lack of funding that kept them for offering that privilege.

Now that she has done this, her life will go a completely different direction. She will now live the rest of her life in a prison. She may not have that long of a life left to live if the courts decide to sentence her to death.

This whole thing makes me wonder about people. It makes me think that it is extremely dangerous to go to work. What if people just decide enough is enough and I was to pay for their suffering. It doesn’t matter if I caused them any stress or not. If I am there or just in their path when they decide to go ballistic, I could just lose my life.

I guess it is no different than an act of God. There is one chance in several million that I will be struck by lightening. The chances are probably as much that I will be shot by some angry employee. I don’t know. I am just rambling. Tell me your thoughts.

Should We Call it Snowpalooza, Snowpocolypse or Snowmageddon

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

I feel that I am lucky to live where I do. When we have weather like this latest series of snow storms, we get a very mild version of it. When Washington DC and other major cities are hurried under feet of snow, I sit here and enjoy a few inches of light fluffy snow that mostly melts away by mid day.

This storm is a mix of many different things. It is danger to those who are not prepared for it. This storm hit without giving much notice. People saw it coming, but didn’t give it much thought. They treated it like any other storm that made it’s way across their town.

This storm was fun for many people. Schools and businesses all over the country closed at least for a day. Since there was snow on the ground many of the people who were sitting at home doing nothing decided to go outside and play in it. This was a time of fun and family togetherness. The grocery stores were wiped out of chips, wings and all the other things that make a good barbeque a lot of fun.

After the storm passed through city after city, people tried to go about their daily life. Many of them encountered deep ditches that engulfed their cars. Others going their brakes didn’t work. They slid into each other because of the ice on the street. I saw a pileup on the news yesterday that showed many cars piled against each other. There must have been 40 of them all on one bridge. None of them could stop, and those who were able to stop were hit from behind from others who could not stop.

There are several YouTube videos of people who documented the snow and what it looked like when their cars were covered with the stuff. I have never experienced having to dig out a path in the snow that was up to my knees. I hope I never have to experience that. I am plenty happy seeing a light snow here in the southeast.

As for what we should call this kind of storm. I am not so sure. For me it would be called Snowpalooza. The reason is mostly because it is a fun time for me and my family. We usually get a day off and we spend time playing in the snow and drinking hot cocoa.

I can see others using the other two words which are not quite as positive. Their experience is probably not as good and will most likely cause them a lot of headache and frustration. So I am not sure what to call this storm. Maybe you have some ideas. Please share them.
