My First Writing Rejection Showed Up Today: The First in Over Ten Years

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

I wrote a short flash fiction peice and mailed it to a Magazine back on July 30th. They sent me a rejection on August 11th, but I never saw it in my email. I queried them last week and this morning I recieved the eMail from them. I liked what they had to say. It at least made me feel like I did a half way decent job writing it.

The editor said, “I’m going to pass. While the piece is creepy as hell (brr!), it seems more like a vignette than a full story.” He’s right. It was more of a scene. I guess it could have been expanded, but I thought it was finished the way it was. I think I am going to try sending it to pseudopod.org and see if they will take it as flash fiction. If they don’t want it, I will have to see what other venues I can find who might want a short vignette like story.

This Palm Treo is doing exactly what I want it to do.

I started writing on it this week working on my novel and I have been able to get three days worth of work done in about a day and a half. If this keeps up, I will be able to get so far ahead that I will be able to participate in NaNoWriMo this year.

I am working on an outline for the novel I got 900 words into last year. It was a good enough concept that I felt that I needed to give it another go.

This year I am going to have everything planned out. I want to know where the story is going and who the characters are so all I have to do is write.

The hard part is actually sitting down and writing the 9 – 200 word sessions everyday. If I can do that, I will have my 5000 word novel by November 28th. This is an ambitious goal. I will have to find time everyday to write (most likely several times a day).

Writing the “Athvor the Dragon” novel on the Treo will give me a few more writing sessions everyday. In just the 15 minutes I have been sitting here, I have already written more than 200 words. Now I have less than 40 days to get a month ahead of schedule. This should be fun.
