NaNo’09 – Step 1: Being Thankful

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

I said in the last post that I was going to use the law of attraction to complete my NaNo this year. This will be a monumental feat considering that I have attempted NaNoWriMo every year for the past five years and have yet to win. I believe the furthest I have ever gotten on a work was about 17,000 words, give or take a couple thousand.

This year I am going to win. How do I know I am going to win? I have new tools this year I haven’t had in the past that will help me complete this task. I have a new cell phone that will allow me to write when I am not in front of a computer (It has MS Word and a keyboard). I have a fair habit of writing everyday because of the novel I am currently writing on my weblog 200 words at a time. You see, I believe I am going to win this year, therefore, I will.

Now, lets see if I can get back to my original topic; using the law of attraction to win NaNoWriMo for 2009. The first and probably most important step to the law of attraction is gratitude… Giving thanks for what you have… so this is what I am going to do today. I want to give thanks.

Why should I give thanks? If you are not thankful for what you already have, your mind is closed to receiving bigger and better things. Your mind is just too occupied to see the bigger and better things. It’s too busy fretting over the dissatisfaction of what you already have and the lack of things you want. If you are happy with what you already have, you don’t need those bigger and better things. Your content… meaning you are most likely happy. This means that when those bigger and better thing do come to you, you are pleasantly surprised and you are open to see them and receive them when they do come along. You are also able to show genuine gratitude about receiving something you were not expecting, starting the cycle all over again.

What does this have to do with me and NaNoWriMo for 2009? I want to show my gratitude for several things. First: I want to thank Chris Baty and his cohorts for creating NaNoWriMo and giving so many of us the desire and motivation to write again. Before NaNoWriMo, I had not written for Nearly 5 years. Without this website there would be a number of people who would not have a completed novel under the belt. I want to be one of those people.

I also want to thank you (yes I said you) for reading this post. Obviously you are interested in what I am doing this year. I appreciate the time you have taken to read what I have written. It makes my heart feel good to know that people like to see what I am doing. It inspires me to do more… to do better. I hope to be able to do the same for you in the near future. I look forward to being able to enjoy the novel you complete this year. Please let me know when it is available to purchase or download or just read off your blog.

I also want to thank God for giving me the ability to tell and write stories and the technology to be able to write these stories efficiently. He also gave me the opportunity to try my hand at writing a novel 5 times over the last few years with the help of NaNoWriMo. This year He is going to give me the ability to write 1,667+ words everyday for the entire month of November. I look forward to seeing that completed Novel in my hands ready for me to start editing.

I sure have rambled on for a long time. If you are still reading, you are amazing. Thank you. I will continue to post my progress on this forum thread. I will also be posting this on my blog as well. Feel free to share your strategy and knowledge that you ARE going to complete your novel this year. This is going to be fun.

My Goals this Week for NaNoWriMo 2007 – Writing my Outline

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

Goal #1: Finish my basic outline for my NaNo Novel for this coming November.

I have figured out what my basic plot is about. I know that I want each chapter to end with a twist or a cliffhanger. To figure out what each chapter is going to be about, I am figuring out what the twist or cliffhanger is for each. This should make the rest of the outlining process a whole lot easier (at least I hope it will). If I can get the main premise for my novel outlined, I think I will be able to wiz through my wordcount everyday.

Goal #2: Decide on names for my two main characters.

Word Count for My NaNo Novel 2006

22,900 / 80,000
(28.6%)

I am working on my novel just about every day now, but it seems that I can’t get myself to write more than a few hundred words at a time. I guess I should count myself lucky that I am actually able to write everyday. I guess I could have put the whole thing on the back burner and foret all about it… again. There is no way that I will have the first draft finished by November first, though.

I think… That through the month of November I am going to work on the outline of this Novel when I am not near a computer. I can print out what I have and finisish outlining the end of the book. I plan to use the computer time that I have working on the new novel for NaNo 2007. I have my ideas for the first few chapters and the last few chapters, but I am going to have to figure out the journey between those chapters before NaNo begins.

I have a few goals for NaNo 2007.

  1. Finish the first draft by November 30th 2007
  2. Finish the first edit by February 28th 2008
  3. Have my first Readers read it by March 31st 2008
  4. Get my Final Draft done by May 31st 2008
  5. Set up a website for the Novel by June 30th 2008
  6. Record the Novel for Podcasting by July 31st 2008
  7. Have the Podcasts Polished and ready for distribution on the website by September 30th 2008
  8. Have the Print Version Finalized on Lulu.com by October 31st 2008
  9. Grow some excitment about my Podcast by November 1st 2008 and release the first chapter on November 1st 2008.
  10. Release a new chapter every day during the month of November.
    • Each podcast will have the chapter
    • and a call for everyone listening to advertise the podcast to draw more listeners.
    • and possibly audio feedback from the listeners.

I don’t know if this will work, but I have set my goals down on digital paper and will make a daring effort to make those goals come true.
