Day 078: Trouble Finding Food

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Normally it only took Athvor ten to twenty minutes to find something to eat. His eagle like eyesight would allow him to spot prey from miles away. This new land was different though. There was nothing to see.

Every time he thought he saw an animal it would disappear into the rockface. It wasn’t like they were hiding. It was more like they were becoming part of their surroundings; not like a camelian. He could see camelians. His eyes could pick up heat signatures. These creatures blended into the rocks without a heat signature. They just completely disappeared.

Athvor even dove down to one of these disappearances and sang his claws into the rocks. There was nothing. Either the creature had moved or had become rock.

He continued to look for several hours. He attacked several cliff faces, melting one of those faces with a giant fireball. He didn’t understand how a creature could disappear so completely. After a while he just gave up. They would just have to go hungry tonight.

This Palm Treo is doing exactly what I want it to do.

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

I started writing on it this week working on my novel and I have been able to get three days worth of work done in about a day and a half. If this keeps up, I will be able to get so far ahead that I will be able to participate in NaNoWriMo this year.

I am working on an outline for the novel I got 900 words into last year. It was a good enough concept that I felt that I needed to give it another go.

This year I am going to have everything planned out. I want to know where the story is going and who the characters are so all I have to do is write.

The hard part is actually sitting down and writing the 9 - 200 word sessions everyday. If I can do that, I will have my 5000 word novel by November 28th. This is an ambitious goal. I will have to find time everyday to write (most likely several times a day).

Writing the “Athvor the Dragon” novel on the Treo will give me a few more writing sessions everyday. In just the 15 minutes I have been sitting here, I have already written more than 200 words. Now I have less than 40 days to get a month ahead of schedule. This should be fun.

Day 077: Landing on Nyrynad

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

The clouds had broken up by the time they reached land. They coould see everything about Nyrynad; the beaches, the rocky deserts, the jaged mountains and what little vegetation that actually grew in the ground here.

Athvor dropped from the sky towards a clearing he was able to make out between two large mountains. There was not much in the way of a landing strip. Dragons didn’t need that much space to land. He could just hover over the spot where he was going to land. He just needed a stable place to put his feet.

This spot was perfect. The clearing had been carved out of the mountain by a raging river. It left room for him to land while being next to the river for quick access to water to drink and fish to eat. There was almost no plant life next to the river. It was like nothing could survive in this place. The plants that did grow in the area were not very appetizing. They were covered in thorns and smelled like rotting flesh.

Within a few moments Athvor was on the ground and his pasengers were sliding off his back. They had a few hours of light left and decided to make the time they had count. Athvor took off to find somethinng decent to eat for dinner. Eeno searched the nearby woods for kindling for a fire. Nynn climbed up the nearby mountain to see where they were and where they might travel the next day.

Day 076: Water Takeoff

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Athvor began to pump his legs beneath the water giving them some forward momentum. It started slow. Nynn was surprised at how fast Athvor could swim. It wasn’t long before he was a moving fast enough to get a small amount of lift under his wings. He began to flap his wings giving him even more speed. He husky body pulled out of the water, his legs streaming through the water. Then he lifted them up close to his body. His talons cut through the water till he flapped a few more time taking them high into the sky.

By the time Athvor flew above the clouds, Nynn pointed at the distance. “There’s land.” Athvor nodded. “Do you think that is Nyrynad?”

“I am pretty sure. We have been flying in one direction. I am sure we are not flying in circles.” He chuckled. “I hope.”

She grinned as she watched the horizon disappear into the clouds. Athvor took them up high not wanting to be seen by anyone who might be in the water below or on the land when the get to land. The less people see them the less trouble they will come into. He wasn’t sure where he was going to land when he got there. He didn’t know what they were going to face when they got there. All he knew was that they had to find the information they needed to bring Junis back to life.

Day 075: How Far Are We?

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

“When we were up about six or seven thousand feet, I saw what I thought was land.” Athvor gazed in the direction of the horizon.

“You could see land?” Nynn looked at him with surprise. “How come I couldn’t see it. I looked in every direction when we were up there and I didn’t see anything but water.”

“My eyesight is ten times better than your remember.”

Nynn smirked at the comment. She knew it to be true. It is just hard to believe when you yourself can’t do something, someone else would be able to do it. Athvor is a dragon. He was able to see a field mouse from ten thousand feet in the air. “How long do you think it will take us to get there?”

Athvor nodded in thought. “We could probably be there by mid afternoon. That is if I fly pretty hard.”

“Are you up to it?”

“I’ve been sleeping for hours. I am sure I have the energy.”

Eeno grunted loosing the flem in the back of his throat. “We go.” He smiled, “We go Now.”

“Yes Eeno. We are going right now.” Athvor opened his wings and stretched. He let out a loud roar.

Day 074: Nynn Dries Off

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

She climbed back onto Athvor and dried off with her shirt. She put on her pants and covered her breasts with the cloth wrap that kept them in place when she was riding, fighting or just running. It was an important piece of cloth. She was glad to be wearing it again. The two dragons were beginning to gawk at her, making her slightly uncomfortable.

She threw her wet shirt over Athvor’s head. He grinned as he tried to get it off. Nynn laughed at the sight. He reminded her of her dog once again. She would throw something on hid heas and he would thrash his head back and forth trying to get it off.

The shirt was wet and sticky so Athvor had problems getting it off. It shifted slightly so he could see out of one eye. He just glared at Nynn in mock anger. She smiled at him and took it back. She didn’t want to loose it to the ocean. It was her only shirt and she would need it when they got to land. She didn’t want everyone to see her in her underwear.

She laid it on Athvor’s back and sat down on it. “So…” She looked around, saw the sun and pointed east. “How much further do you think we have to go?”
